The magnetic pull of fungi…I can’t explain it. I think it is the texture, the shape, the color, the patterning. Perhaps it is respect for a living thing neither plant nor animal. Maybe it is the beauty inherent in the evidence of life cycling before my eyes. Maybe it is the touch of fairy magic they hold. Maybe it is all these things. But certainly, fungi can draw my eyes upwards or down, sending me kneeling in the mud or, as was the case this past weekend, trudging through nearly 3 feet of snow to get a better look.
